August 11, 2025 the DC Metropolitan Police Department was temporarily put under federal control, and the National Guard deployed, which has now been extended to January, 2029. These actions were taken under the flimsiest of pretexts, after DC crime rates had been falling consistently since pandemic-level highs. To say that my 2C02 constituents’ opinions and experiences of the 2025 National Guard deployment was overwhelmingly different than during the 2021 National Guard deployment is an extreme understatement.
